Business Development Strategy 1
Where are We? Gaining a True Perspective
Tutor: Andrew Hedley CPD Hours: 38 hours Duration: 2 - 3 months
Course Cost: £995
The first in a series of three that will enable participants to create and implement highly effective business development and marketing strategies.
This course introduces participants to the fundamentals of a Business Development & Marketing Strategy enabling them to plot their firm's current and desired competitive position, understand better the opportunities and challenges that they face.
Using recognised tools, tuned for the legal sector, candidates will analyse their current market position, understand the longer term prospects and evaluate competitive forces. There will also be a consideration of the impact of changes to the market for legal services and how these will impact on the business development and marketing strategy.
This course will help you to resolve these typical business problems:
- Gaining a good perspective on the longer term macro-economic drivers that will affect future work prospects.
- A good understanding of the impact for your firm of the implementation of the Legal Services Act 2007 and the deregulation of the profession.
- An objective assessment of the competitive position faced by your firm.
- Understanding how client demands are changing and will continue to change going forward.
- Benchmarking your firm’s key competencies and understanding which of these may provides sources of competitive advantage or place you at a relative disadvantage.
This course will give you an opportunity to carry out the analysis phase of a strategy review, combining both external and internal assessment. This will provide the level of understanding needed to move forward to the next stage of the strategy development process.
This will involve the use of a number of industry standard strategy models with adaptation for the legal services industry.
- Understand the importance of the analysis phase of any strategy process.
- Conduct internal assessment of your current business, its profitability, work-profile and client base structure.
- Undertake macro-environmental assessment of the longer term challenges faced by your firm.
- Create a competitive analysis which considers the immediate competitive forces faced by your firm and the relative challenges to development which they pose.
- Consolidate this analysis into a top-line overview which sets out the key opportunities and threats faced by the firm together with its major sources of competitive advantage and disadvantage.
