This course focuses on the challenges of being a team leader and how you can manage your team successfully so that they are highly motivated, perform to the best of their ability and deliver quality results to clients. It is intended that this course will deliver practical and concrete improvements in your knowledge of and skills in managing high performance teams.

This course forms part of the series of courses on Leading and Managing People and will help you to resolve these typical business problems:

• Lack of clarity as to the purpose and direction of your team as a whole and the role of each individual in the team.
• Little understanding of your impact as a leader on your team.
• Poor communication by you with the team members and between team members and colleagues in other practice areas.
• The different tensions that frequently occur between individuals in the team and how you can deal with them.
• The underperformance of some team members and how to ensure that your talented team members reach their full potential. 

This course will give you the understanding and skills to get the most out of those that you work with, whatever the skills and experience of individual team members. It will provide you with the tools and techniques, as a team leader, to ensure that your team works better together and is highly motivated.

The knowledge and skills that you gain from the course will allow your team to deliver better results to clients, increasing client satisfaction and the potential for further client work. It will also improve team morale and the job satisfaction of lawyers and support staff in the team, so that they are loyal to the firm leading to increased retention rates and cost benefits.

• Have an in depth knowledge of the nature and composition of your team and its strengths and weaknesses.
• Set a clear strategic direction for your team and allocate clear roles for the team members.
• Identify the stage reached in the development of your team.
• Communicate more successfully with the team to encourage and motivate your lawyers and support staff.
• Develop the talent of your staff by effective coaching and delegation so that they work to their full potential. 
• Develop, implement and evaluate the success of a team development plan.
