This is the first in a series of three strategy courses and will enable you to carry out a detailed analysis of the marketplace and present a stakeholders report on the opportunities and threats facing the firm.

  • Select the most appropriate strategic market analysis tools and techniques for your firm.
  • Apply them to comprehensively analyse the external marketplace.
  • Identify the opportunities and threats facing your firm.
  • Present a detailed Market Analysis Report to your firm.  
Creating the Vision – Fiona Westwood
This second course allows you to develop an agreed Vision for your business and based on your comprehensive Market Analysis, agree its long-term objectives.

  • Agree and formalise a vision for the firm.
  • Identify, debate and agree core values.
  • Brainstorm solutions to marketplace pressures to change.
  • Agree long-term priorities for the firm in a Statement of Core Values.

This first in a series of three courses equips law firm leaders with the knowledge needed to create a strategic business case for a merger or acquisition.  
 
By the end of this course you will be able to:
  • Create a merger business case linking back to the firm’s overall strategic objectives.
  • Conduct gap analysis to identify the profile of strong match candidates.
  • Assemble a framework and conduct assessment against it.
  • Articulate a recommendation for action. 
Mergers and Acquisitions 2 – Delivering the Deal – Andrew Hedley
This second course will give you the knowledge needed to engage in a merger or acquisition negotiation, ensuring that the proposal is grounded in a solid business rationale.  
 
By the end of this course you will be able to:
  • Engage in a rounded merger or acquisition negotiation.
  • Ensure that all key structural, operational, client and people issues have been adequately aired.
  • Create a robust prospectus which presents an informed vision for the new business and which is a vehicle for the communication of the proposal to the partner base for approval. 
Mergers and Acquisitions 3 – Implementing for Success – Andrew Hedley
The third course will give you the knowledge required to gain consensus within your firm to proceed with a merger or acquisition opportunity and to plan the implementation phase.
 
By the end of this course you will be able to:
  • Understand the process to gain consensus to enable smooth implementation.
  • Identify and evaluate possible business risks arising as a result of the merger.
  • Identify and evaluate likely business opportunities arising as a result of the merger.
  • Produce an implementation plan which allows the firm to move rapidly, manage risks and exploit opportunities.
